Season 2 started on the right foot at home for the St. John's IceCaps this past weekend. After being shut out by the Hamilton Bulldogs last year in their home debut, winning the first meeting of this two game series against the Adirondack Phantoms set the tone for a strong home campaign this season. In the second game on Saturday night the home side was unable to force overtime and lost 4-3.
In their season opener in Springfield, MA, the IceCaps ran into a much stronger Falcons squad than they faced last year. As long as the NHLPA stays locked out, this team will be a powerhouse in the AHL Eastern Conference.
The St. John's IceCaps came out of a two-game series against the Worcester Sharks this weekend with both their record and their pride intact. Spliting the two-game series with a regulation win each, the Sharks played with their usual motus operendi: trying to intimidate their opponents by finishing checks, picking fights, and talking smack along the way. As for the IceCaps, their approach was noticably different between games one and two.
