Season 2 started on the right foot at home for the St. John's IceCaps this past weekend. After being shut out by the Hamilton Bulldogs last year in their home debut, winning the first meeting of this two game series against the Adirondack Phantoms set the tone for a strong home campaign this season. In the second game on Saturday night the home side was unable to force overtime and lost 4-3.

The last time the IceCaps were playing in front of their fans on home ice, they were being swept from the Eastern Conference Final by the Norfolk Admirals. Watching the minutes of the third period tick away, with the visitors up 4-0, one would assume the crowd would start drifting out as soon as the 50-50 winner was announced. Instead, something amazing happened. At the four minute mark, the entire crowd came to their feet and gave the home team an ovation that lasted long after the final whistle. This was a crowd thanking an organization that in only one season, had brought championship-level hockey to a city dying for a someone to cheer for.

The St. John's IceCaps have punched their ticket to the AHL Eastern Conference Finals after a grueling series against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. This was as even a match-up as one can see over a playoff series, with the final decision coming down to the final seconds of Game 7.

Unlike their first round, five-game series against Syracuse, the IceCaps began their seven-game feud with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at home in St. John's. After the first two games, the teams are tied at one win a piece, with no clear victor in sight.
